James Blair

James was the son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie. We know when he was baptized, that he had a son and a daughter, that he went to the East Indies, and that he died before 1804 

Old Parish Records of the Church of Scotland list James as the son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie, baptized on June 01, 1759 in Kippen, Stirlingshire, Scotland The same information is recorded in The Buchlyvie Associate Session Baptisms (some marriages) 1752–1785.

James is also mentioned in the Robert Blair Letters:

Ltr dated May 13, 1786 from John Blair at Arnmore
Your Brothers and sister are all well but for James there is no word from him – since he went to the East Indiens.

Ltr dated March 5, 1790 from John Blair at Arnmore
Your brother James we heard no account from him since he left this place.

Ltr dated March 9, 1807 (or 09) from Joseph Blair in Stirling
Our brother James died in the east indes seven years ago and his wife and son and daughter is in ___ and doing well.

 


 

 

 

ROBERT BLAIR LETTERS
 

Robert Blair, son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie was the first Blair in this line to emmigrate to America. In 1785 he and his wife Margaret McLuckie settled in Barnet Vermont.

 From 1786 through 1818, Robert and Margaret received 30 letters from family and friends back in Scotland. These letters were preserved by the Vermont Historical Society. We have digital copies of these letters and are in the process of transcribing them.
