John Blair

We know very little of John except that he was the oldest son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie. 

Old Parish Records of the Church of Scotland list John as the son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie, baptized on Feb 11, 1750 in Kippen, Stirlingshire, Scotland. The same information is recorded in the Associate Session of Balfron which contains baptisms of Buchlyvie from 1750 to 1752

John is also mentioned in several of the Robert Blair Letters:

John is in Glasgow and he well

Our brother John is still in Glasgow and famelie they are all well.

Ltr dated April 18, 1807 from Janet Blair in St. Ninians, Stirling
I would have sent your Fathers Bible but Brother John wrote me from Glasgow that if I would send it he would make me Repent it for he was the Old son and it was his.

Ltr dated June 22, 1816 from Peter Blair at No 8 Orchard Street, Paisley
Your brother John resides in Glasgow and had his son Robert 21 years in the 91st regment but has got his discharge now and a pension.

ROBERT BLAIR LETTERS

Robert Blair, son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie was the first Blair in this line to emmigrate to America. In 1785 he and his wife Margaret McLuckie settled in Barnet Vermont.

From 1786 through 1818, Robert and Margaret received 30 letters from family and friends back in Scotland. These letters were preserved by the Vermont Historical Society. We have digital copies of these letters and are in the process of transcribing them.
