Donald Blair and
Janet McAdams are the possible parents
of John Blair. This is our best guess based on data
in the OPRs and IGIs and from references in John's
letters to Robert.
Old Parish
Records of the Church of Scotland indicate that Donald
Blair of Kippen and Janet McAdam of Port of Menteith
were married on Apr 28, 1719 in Port of Menteith,
Perth, Scotland. The OPRs also show they had
6 children, all baptized in the parish of Kippen:
|
i. |
JOHN BLAIR - March 27, 1720 |
|
ii. |
MARY BLAIR
- October 14, 1722 |
|
iii. |
DUNCAN BLAIR
- December 12, 1725 |
|
iv. |
ELISABETH BLAIR
- September 10, 1727 |
|
v. |
ALEXANDER BLAIR
- March 27, 1729 |
|
vi. |
JANET BLAIR
- February 20, 1732 |
In two of the
Robert Blair Letters John mentions that "your uncles
Duncan and Alexander is both dead." In another
letter John mentions that "aunt Elizabeth is on foot
but frail" and "aunt Mary houses at New Hous near
st. Ninians." Letters from John also make reference
to uncles John and William, but these may refer to
Robert's uncles on his mother's side.
Considering the
christening dates of the children of Donald Blair
and Janet McAdams, the location of their births, and
the names that correspond with the information in
the letters, there is appears to be fair degree of
probability that Donald and Janet are the parents of
John Blair, my gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather.
