11 Cal Cty Manuscript records of Sam Crafts 1813-1815: Andrew 10/a 1 house $310

Abby Hemingway's Gazetter 1867: Andrew Blair - pioneer settler. Mrs Andrew Blair (Ann) sent daughter to 1st school in 1812.

Had son Andrew Blair Esq ---> Wisconsin

Robert's son Andrew Blair, along with Elihu Sabin, Reuben Smith, Elisha Sheppard, Reuben Crosby, Thomas Ransom, Azatiah Boody, and Ephraim Perrin, were the earliest settlers of Goshen Gore (now called Stannard) VT, around 1803. The Vermont Historical Magazine noted that "Mrs. Andrew Blair sent her girl to the first school, and paid the tuition with a pink silk handkerchief. 'Schoolmarm know'd I had it, and she wanted it to make her a bonnet' (Good old Mrs. Ann Blair's testimony)" Of Andrew Blair, the magazine reports: "Had the Olympic races come down to our times, Mr. Blair, according to report, might have, become a successful competitor for a crown. It is current that he once ran down and captured a fox, and was overheard holding a parley with the captive, whether the thing was done fair. But, unlike the Olympic races, not having an impartial judge to decide the points, the fox seemed to dissent from his victor's boast of fair play. 'Now,' says Mr. Blair, 'if you think the thing was not done fair, we'll try it again.' Whereupon the fox was let go, and was allowed to have a few rods the start, when Blair took the track. Away went the fox-away went Blair; one for life, the other for victory, over hill, over fence, over brush, till Blair caught the breathless trophy, a second time, in triumph.

Peter was a bottler in Paisley Scotland
Peter Blair

37 Peter Blair was a weaver in Scotland, weaving Paisley shawls. When work became scarce, he came to America at the request of his uncle Robert who lived in Barnet Vermont.

After spending some time with his uncle in VT, he went to Lowell MA, where he continued his trade as a weaver for a time. There he met and married Elizabeth Rodger. Finally they came to Goshen Gore and settled on a place where there was a log house and about four acres of cleared land. That place was where the Cargills lived just above your home (Peter Blair & Etta Pratt).

Just below where you lived was a cousin of our Grandfather's (Andrew Blair who had come from Barnet on the place now owned by Sternburg).

On the ship that Peter came to America on was William Rodger who went to Greensboro. William told his mother (Agnes) and sister (Elizabeth) that when he got settled in America he would send for them. Tired of waiting for the word, they went to America to find William. When they got to Greensboro William had already moved to Lowell MA where Peter also was. Elizabeth and her mother followed William to Lowell and Peter and Elizabeth met. Elizabeth did not know Peter in Scotland but she has said that when she was waiting to see her brother leave on the ship, she remembers seeing Peter leaning against the ship eating a biscuit.
